Sense of Self Bristol

Our Teachers

Tayler Hayes

Tayler Hayes

Founder

We are proud to have some of the most skilled, experienced, intuitive and compassionate teachers in the city at Sense of Self. We hire Senior teachers all with many years of experience teaching, meaning that when you come to class, you are in good and safe hands with someone who really knows their craft.

Taylers practices are guided from the heart and the knowing that each body in the space is already completely Whole, yet completely unique. She would describe my style of teaching as intuitive, nourishing, playful and fluid. Her offerings are often inspired by nature’s elements and are fundamentally about guiding people back to the felt sense of their own aliveness and the deep stillness of their natural, unconditioned state. For Tayler, movement and stillness are both doorways to freedom and her teaching is supported and inspired by 1000s of hours of training across Yoga (vinyasa, ashtanga vinyasa, hatha, restorative), Pilates (mat, reformer & pre/postnatal), somatics, myofascial release and the luminous philosophy of non-dual shaiva tantra that supports her life.

Alice Powell

Alice Powell

Alice’s approach sits between the dance of expression and the pull of self inquiry. She roots in the philosophy of yoga and the somatic mystery of the body. With a background of dance and performance, she pulls from many different aspects of self expression. Building reciprocity through breath and energy – activating the felt sense. Alice works through an embodied lens that helps engage mind-body and spirit. “The mystery and primality of the body and voice really pulls me in” Her offerings are a natural invitation to explore how you release, soften, strengthen and most importantly feel.

Mary Bowen

Mary Bowen

Mary’s classes offer a space to move with presence, curiosity, and a sense of ease- encouraging you to explore what feels true in your body. Drawing on her background in dance, she encourages exploration of the body’s natural rhythms and movement patterns, moving away from the linear approach to alignment in favour of a more fluid, felt-sense experience. At the start of her yoga journey, Mary found herself in a state of comparison – believing she had to be something other than what she already was, feeling like her body didn’t quite measure up. Those feelings created a deep sense of disconnection from her body. That dissonance is exactly why she teaches the way she does now. Rooted in compassion, Mary holds space for you to come exactly as you are; free from pressure, expectation, or performance. Her classes are a space to reconnect with yourself, through movement, stillness and breath. Expect thoughtful, curiosity-led sequences, carefully curated playlists, and an atmosphere where the full spectrum of being is welcome.

Sunny Northbrooke

Sunny Northbrooke

Through all the wisdom that is yoga, Sunny had a passion for offering classes where students have the opportunity to reconnect with the self, to be inspired and find compassion. Opening with stillness and meditation, her practice focuses on creating an embodied, spiritual, loving awareness flow, usually with a carefully selected theme. Wen Yee Kok

Wen Yee Kok

Wen Yee Kok is a Malaysian Chinese yoga sharer, wellness facilitator and creative based in Bristol, UK. Yoga first came into Wen’s life 18 years ago through physical poses (asanas), where her intention was to improve ‘flexibility’ for cheerleading. However, it wasn’t until she stumbled upon her first pranayama (breath regulation) practice that it truly took her breath away. That was when Wen discovered yoga is not just a workout, but a work-in. Since then, she live life as a ritual, led from the wisdom of yoga. To her, yoga is not just something we do – it’s a way of being, feeling and living, where we carry the values beyond the mat, weaving them into the vessels of everyday life. Over the past 7 years, Wen’s approach to sharing yoga has evolved, shaped by her personal practice and interest in Krama Vinyasa, Qi Gong, Chinese Medicine, Bhakti Yoga, Zen Art and living in rhythm with nature. Her style could be perceived in the following words: storytelling, curiosity-led, progressive, nature-based and soulful.
